HOW TO BUILD A FIRE 1. Campfire material You need three types of material to build up the fire - tinder, kindling, and firewood. Tinder is dry material that ignites with little heat - a spark starts a fire: Shredded bark, dry grass, leaves, needles, dry plants, paper, sawdust etc. Check out our new MAGFIRE Tinder! Kindling is a small combustible material that you add to the burning tinder: Small dry twigs, dry bush branches, split wood. Firewood burns slowly and steadily once it catches fire: Dry, standing wood and dry, dead branches. Cut and split the wood gathered into proper pieces. This way it is easier to light, build up and to control the campfire. 2. Preparations Put the campfire material next to the intended fireplace. Shred some tinder that catches fire easily. 3. Starting the fire Strike the metal stick with a slow but strong movement - try to produce big sparks by using force. Big sparks will burn long enough to ignite your tinder chips. Use a biting blade angle like in the illustration. 4. Stages of building the fire Feed the fire by using dry grass, bark or chipped twigs. Place a log on both sides of the fireplace. When the tinder lights up, you may add more wood in stages and start to arrange the logs crosswise, like a log cabin. Be patient when building the fire. Let the fire light up before adding more firewood. |

INFO & TIPS You can try a different technique by using your thumb to press the striker harder against the metal stick. When using a knife, strike the metal by using the tip of the blade. MAGFIRE™ - firestarter ignites safely and easily your gas or spirit stove. The sparks are very effective up to 30 centimetres away from the target, so there is no danger of burning your fingers. The spark shower is very bright and can be seen far away, so you can use it as a signal for help in emergency. You will find tinder also from a rainy forest; lower dry branches of a tree, bark from the sheltered side of the tree and stumps. A stump might be wet on the surface, but dry inside just like many other materials. Collect kindling and tinder along the trail. Dry damp firewood near the fire. The fire should be made on a marked fireplace or on an old campsite. When building a new fireplace, try to save nature. Start the fire from the windy side. Remove all the burning material from the ground under the intended place and isolate the fireplace by using stones. Put out the fire carefully and set the fire site in order before you leave. We wish you rewarding trips outdoors! ![]() |
